Jesus blesses those who are sad and promises to comfort them. God is close to the brokenhearted.

Meek means gentle and humble, not pushy. Jesus says the gentle will be blessed.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Matthew 5:6
Jesus blesses those who really want to do right, as if they were hungry for it. God fills those who seek Him.
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Matthew 5:7
Mercy means being kind and forgiving to others. When we show mercy, we receive it too.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Matthew 5:8
A pure heart is honest and clean before God. God helps us keep our hearts pure.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God. Matthew 5:9
Jesus blesses those who help make peace. Peacemakers are called God's children.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:10
Jesus blesses those who are treated badly for doing right. God is proud of them, and heaven is theirs.
